Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is a unique imaging modality that is capable of detecting certain diseases at an early stage.  A PET scan will provide information that can be used in the planning and management of your care, in determining therapy and in following your progress.

    PET is utilized in:
    • Oncology to determine the location and extent of tumor growth.
    • Neurology to aid in the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease, dementia, stroke, brain tumors and seizures.
    • Cardiology to determine the perfusion and viability of the heart.

    When scheduling your PET scan:
    • Inform the PET imaging staff if you are taking any medications, you are diabetic, you are pregnant or you are nursing.
    • Discuss diet and exercise requirements with the PET imaging staff.
